Real Pumpkin Masala Chai

Real Pumpkin Masala Chai - Loka

You've heard of a Pumpkin Spiced Latte, but have you heard of a Pumpkin Masala Chai? Instead of artificial syrup, this version uses real pumpkin puree, lightly caramelised for a natural sweetness and spooned around the glass before the chai goes in. This means you can enjoy the long-awaited pumpkin season whilst feeling nourished, energised and satisfied at the same time.

We’ve included two options: a homemade version for those cosier days when little more time, and a simple canned version for when you're looking for a little less fuss.

Real Pumpkin Masala Chai

Ingredients

  • Masala Chai Blend, brewed to your preferred strength in the Loka Chai Maker

  • 1 large pumpkin, or canned pumpkin puree if not making your own

  • White cane sugar

  • Unsalted butter

  • 1 cinnamon stick, to serve

To Make the Pumpkin Chai:

Prepare the pumpkin puree using one of the methods below.

Spoon the pumpkin puree into your glass or cup and spread it across the base and up the sides so it remains visible through the glass.

Brew the Masala Chai Blend in the Chai Maker to your preferred strength.

Pour the hot chai into the puree-lined glass.

Finish with a cinnamon stick for stirring and scooping up the pumpkin puree as you drink.

1) Homemade Pumpkin Puree

Chop the pumpkin into small chunks and roast until tender.

Blend most of the roasted pumpkin into a puree.

In a pan, gently melt a little white cane sugar with unsalted butter until it forms a light caramel.

2) Canned Pumpkin Puree

Gently warm the canned pumpkin puree in a pan.

In a separate pan, melt a little white cane sugar with unsalted butter until it forms a light caramel.

Stir the warm caramel into the pumpkin puree until smooth and well combined.

Made your own version? We'd love to see it. Tag us @weare_loka and tell us which one you went with. We’ve got plenty more planned for hot chocolate season, so watch this space for more to come.
